ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ أَجْمَعِينَ
A Moment Where Even Language Falls Silent
My beloved readers, welcome to the final and most sacred station of this blessed journey.
At Sidrat-ul-Muntahā, Jibrīl al-Amīn (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) stopped. Not because the path ended—but because creation ended.
From here onward, direction dissolved, time surrendered, and place ceased to exist. The Beloved of Allah ﷺ now moved alone toward the Divine Presence—to a nearness the Qur’an itself immortalized:
“Then the distance was two bows’ length—or even nearer.”
— (Surah An-Najm 53:9)
Come… with tears of reverence in your eyes, let us witness what no pen can fully contain.
The Journey Beyond Space: Rafraf and the Realm of Lā-Makān
When Jibrīl (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) remained behind, Allah sent Rafraf—a green, luminous heavenly conveyance. The Prophet ﷺ ascended instantly into Lā-Makān (The Realm of Placelessness)—a realm where no north or south exists, where seconds and centuries are meaningless.
Imām Aḥmad Razā Khān (رَحْمَةُ ٱللَّٰهِ عَلَيْهِ) captured this reality with unmatched depth in his poetry:
خِرَد سے کہہ دو کہ سر جھکا لے، گماں سے گزرے گزرنے والے
پڑے ہیں یہاں خود جہت کو لالے، کسے بتائے کدھر گئے تھے
"Tell reason to bow its head, and imagination to step aside—
for even direction is lost here; none can explain where he went."
The Divine Vision and the Secret of 90,000 Words
This was the moment when all veils were lifted. According to the majority of Ahl-e-Sunnah scholars, including Imām Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal (رَحْمَةُ ٱللَّٰهِ عَلَيْهِ), the Prophet ﷺ saw Allah with his blessed eyes—without modality, without likeness, without comparison.
It was a meeting of Lover and Beloved.
The Awliyā’ and scholars—among them Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī (رَحْمَةُ ٱللَّٰهِ عَلَيْهِ)—narrate that 90,000 Divine Words were exchanged:
- 30,000 words → for the Ummah (Sharīʿah).
- 30,000 words → for the chosen elite (Ṭarīqah & Maʿrifah).
- 30,000 words → pure Divine secrets, never disclosed to creation (Ḥaqīqah).
The Gift of At-Taḥiyyāt: A Conversation Preserved in Prayer
What we recite in every Ṣalāh was born there—in that Divine dialogue. The Prophet ﷺ humbly said:
Allah replied:
And the Prophet ﷺ—thinking of you, even there—said:
Every prayer is a return to Mi‘raj.
Three Unmatched Gifts to the Ummah
According to Sahih Muslim (Hadith 173), three treasures were granted:
- Five Daily Prayers: Reduced from fifty—yet rewarded as fifty.
- The Final Verses of Surah al-Baqarah: Revealed from the treasures beneath the Throne.
- The Promise of Forgiveness: Every believer free from shirk is eligible for Divine mercy.
Time Stood Still: Faith Beyond Physics
When the Prophet ﷺ returned, the bed was still warm, water still flowing. Modern physics speaks of time dilation at light speed, but Imām Aḥmad Razā Khān (رَحْمَةُ ٱللَّٰهِ عَلَيْهِ) offered a deeper answer:
وہ جو نہ تھے تو کچھ نہ تھا، وہ جو نہ ہوں تو کچھ نہ ہو
جان ہیں وہ جہان کی، جان ہے تو جہان ہے
"He is the soul of the universe—when the soul departed, the universe paused."
Ṣiddīq’s Testimony: The Seal of Faith
When disbelief spread the next morning, Sayyidunā Abū Bakr (رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ) said without hesitation: "If he said it, then it is true." Thus he became Aṣ-Ṣiddīq al-Akbar.
