Dear respected reader, As-Salāmu ‘Alaikum.
In the previous part of this blessed series, we stood at the luminous gates of the First Heaven, witnessing scenes that already challenged our understanding of accountability, mercy, and divine justice. Yet, what unfolded beyond was even more profound.
Today, we ascend — with reverence and humility — to the Second Heaven, a realm known in classical narrations as Qaydūm, where honor, warning, love, and deep theological wisdom converge in a single moment of the Mi‘raj.
This is a mirror for the Ummah.
Entering the Second Heaven: A Realm of Light and Recognition
When the Beloved Messenger of Allah ﷺ was raised beyond the First Heaven, Sayyiduna Jibrīl ‘alayhis-salām sought permission once again. The gates opened — not by force, but by recognition.
This is a recurring pattern of Mi‘raj: Honor precedes entry. Recognition precedes elevation. Here, the Prophet ﷺ was not introduced as a stranger, but as the awaited leader of all creation.
A Royal Welcome by Two Noble Prophets
In the Second Heaven, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was warmly received by two maternal cousins:
- Sayyiduna ‘Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him)
- Sayyiduna Yahya ibn Zakariyya (peace be upon him)
Both prophets greeted him with words recorded in authentic Hadith:
“Marḥaban bil-akh aṣ-ṣāliḥ wan-nabiyy aṣ-ṣāliḥ.”
“Welcome, O righteous brother and righteous Prophet.”
📚 Reference: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (Hadith 3438) | Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (Hadith 168)
This greeting is deeply significant. It confirms brotherhood of prophethood, unity of divine mission, and the finality of leadership vested in Sayyiduna Muḥammad ﷺ.
The Blessed Description of Sayyiduna ‘Isa (peace be upon him)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself described the appearance of Sayyiduna ‘Isa ‘alayhis-salām — and when the Prophet ﷺ describes, it becomes ‘ilm (established knowledge).
“I saw ‘Isa ibn Maryam — of medium height, fair-complexioned with a reddish hue. His hair was so pure and shining that it appeared as though water was dripping from it, even though it was not wet.”
This description holds theological weight, especially in refuting false depictions and exaggerations associated with Sayyiduna ‘Isa (peace be upon him). Islam preserves balance, dignity, and truth.
A Hidden Wisdom Explained by Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ)
Imam Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi (رحمۃ اللہ علیہ), in Fatawa Razawiyyah, highlights a profound wisdom behind this meeting:
- The presence of Sayyiduna ‘Isa (peace be upon him) in the Second Heaven signifies his future descent to Earth as a follower and supporter of the Shari‘ah of Sayyiduna Muḥammad ﷺ.
This meeting is not symbolic alone — it is a divine announcement: The final victory of Islam will occur under the banner of Muhammad ﷺ, even when led by a previous Prophet. This is pure Ahl-e-Sunnah creed.
Witnessing the Angels: A Scene That Redefines Humility
As the journey continued, the Prophet ﷺ encountered a vast assembly of angels in the Second Heaven. They were so immersed in khushū‘ (humble devotion) that they were unaware of anything besides the glorification of Allah.
Their tasbīḥ was:
“Subḥānal-Qā’im alladhī lā yanām, Subḥānal-Ḥayy alladhī lā yamūt.”
“Pure is the Ever-Standing who never sleeps. Pure is the Ever-Living who never dies.”
A Terrifying Vision: The Punishment of Those Who Consume Orphans’ Wealth
The Mi‘raj was not only honor — it was warning. The Prophet ﷺ was shown a group of people whose lips were hanging like the lips of camels. They were being forced to swallow burning stones of fire.
Shocked, the Prophet ﷺ asked Jibrīl ‘alayhis-salām about them. Jibrīl replied: “O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, these are the people who consumed the wealth of orphans unjustly in the world.”
📚 References: Musnad Ahmad (Hadith 2321) | Tafsīr Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabari
“Indeed, those who unjustly consume orphans’ wealth ˹in fact˺ consume nothing but fire into their bellies. And they will be burned in a blazing Hell!”
(The Women 4:10)
A Psychological Reality for Today’s World
Pause here. In an era where orphans are exploited, trust funds are misused, and power is abused behind legal paperwork, Mi‘raj reminds us: Divine justice sees what contracts conceal. No corruption is hidden from the heavens.
A Reflection Before We Ascend Further
The Second Heaven teaches us three core truths:
- Honor comes with alignment to truth, not claims.
- Love for the Prophet ﷺ unites all prophets and angels.
- Oppression of the weak invites immediate divine response.
This journey is not moving away from Earth — it is exposing Earth.
